The global clean water crisis is one of the most important challenges  facing the society in the 21st century.  By pollution, lack of proper ma-nagement and population growth, the availability of this valuable natural resource  is committed. In some countries, the average gradual loss per capita availability of water has already reached alarming levels, which makes it necessary the urgent search of sustainable and effective solutions.

One of the goals incluided in the  2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development formulated by the United Nations,  stablished the need to: “ensure availability and sustaninable management of water and sanitation for all”  with the commitment to achieve  it by 2030,  “universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all,    improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse glo-bally, expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water- and sanitation-related activities and programmes, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies”, among other purposes.

In order to achieve the Agenda goals, specifically those related with water sanitation, bio and nanotechnology can contribute effectively through its capabilities for detection, mitigation and remediation actions. New environmentally friendly  materials and their exceptional properties,  can contribute to the design and configuration of sensors for monitoring and measurement  as well as bio-nanostructured membranes and nanoparticles for selective removal of contaminants -such as heavy metals-.

In addition, these technologies can help with replacement of beneficiation methods and practices responsible for contamination of water for human consumption.

Nano Journal is committed  to socializing and promoting from what nanotechnology can offer in terms of efficient solutions to recover one of the world’s most precious and necessary natural resources: WATER.
